Through the years, Hové® has received many questions from customers both in the mail and in our shop. We thought we would share some of the most often repeated questions and their answers with you.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PERFUME & COLOGNE?
With Hové® products, the only difference is strength. We use the same quality oils to make both the perfume and cologne (as well as all our products including the soaps). Perfume is stronger and more lasting. The cologne is less concentrated in fragrant oils and can be splashed on whereas the perfume should be applied more sparingly.
WHERE AND HOW SHOULD I KEEP MY PERFUME OR COLOGNE?
Perfume and cologne should always be kept cool and away from light. Heat will cause evaporation, and light may effect color change. Bathrooms are not good places because they are usually kept warm, and baths and shower cause the room to be filled with steam. Bedrooms are usually fine as long as they are not to warm nor have sunlight hitting the area where the perfume or cologne is kept. However, if a perfume or cologne is to be used sparingly, only on special occasions, etc., the best place to keep them is in the refrigerator.
I HAVE JUST RECEIVED MY PERFUME (OR COLOGNE) AND IT SEEMS MUCH WEAKER THAN THE LAST BOTTLE I RECEIVED. DID YOU CHANGE THE FORMULA? WHAT COULD BE WRONG?
Perfume and cologne contain alcohol as the necessary releasing agent for all the ingredients. Without alcohol, the fragrance of many ingredients would never be fully realized. But, when exposed to air, alcohol evaporates. When a perfume or cologne is opened, it will be affected eventually although it will be a very slow and unnoticed rate (unless subjected to heat). With Hové® formulas, however, the perfume or cologne will not change fragrance as our formulas are perfectly balanced, but as the slow process takes place, the alcohol will evaporate, leaving a more concentrated perfume or cologne. Naturally, when the new bottle arrived, it will not be as strong as the old bottle.
MY PERFUME DOES NOT LAST ON ME AS LONG AS IT USED TO. WHAT IS WRONG?
If you have recently received a new bottle, please read the above question and answer as that may be the reason. If this is not your case, then there is another explanation. The nose is a delicate instrument. When it becomes used to a scent ( whether it be your fine perfume, the garlic used in the kitchen) it does not register the scent anymore and so one thinks that thing has lost its scent. If you have worn one fragrance a lot, often you will lose your sense of smell to it. The best way to test this is to ask someone who is not used to your scent to see if they can detect it on you.
HOW LONG SHOULD I STORE MY PERFUME OR COLOGNE?
Please remember that a fine perfume or cologne is like a fine wine. Once opened, it should be used. And like wines, some are more delicate and responsive to time and conditions than others. Perfume is more stable that cologne as cologne has more alcohol. And the fuller the bottle ( the less air), the less evaporation or chance of evaporation. Where and how you keep your bottle will also be of up most importance. But to give you some idea, we think it best not to take more than a year to use up a 1 ounce of perfume, keeping it cool and away from light.
HOW MANY DRAMS ARE IN AN OUNCE? HOW MANY ML'S ARE IN AN OUNCE?
1 dram = 3.69 ml or 1/8 ounce
1 ounce = 29.57ml
2 ounce = 59ml
HOW CAN I ORDER Hové® PRODUCTS?
There are two different ways that you can order our products. First you can mail in the order form that you are able to download from our website. (This order form is down right now. We are working on it to correct the form with our new address) You will then mail in the order form with your form of payment to 434 Chartres St. New Orleans, LA 70130. All orders must be accompanied by check or money order made to Hové® Parfumeur, (if you write a check, your order may be delayed up to 10 days so it can clear the bank) or you can use your AMEX, VISA, MC, DINER'S CLUB, and DISCOVER card. There is a place available on the order form for all of this information.
The second way you can order our products is over the phone. You can place your order, and give us your credit card information over the phone. This is the quickest way to receive your order. Both ways are very simple.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR ME TO RECEIVE MY PRODUCTS ONCE Hové® HAS RECEIVED MY ORDER FORM AND PAYMENT?
Once we have received full payment (including US Handling Cost- $11.00 -13.00 depending on the weight of package) we will ship your package within a 5 day period. You should receive your package within 7-10 working days after being mailed out. Special delivery services are available through UPS, USPS, and Federal Express - Please telephone between the hours of 10AM and 5PM (cst) for additional charges. This includes air service to parts of Alaska and Hawaii, and all foreign countries. Additional shipping charges by the carrier, due to the redirection of packages once shipped, will be billed to the customer. Our phone number is 504-525-7827
WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?
Perfumes, colognes, body oils, body powders, body lotions, or soaps once opened or used, cannot be accepted for return. If Hové® has shipped the wrong item or if there are any problems, please write, e-mail, or phone us and we will answer immediately. Only package approved for return will be accepted. Shipping and handling charges are non-refundable. All sales are final when the product leaves the shop. Our clothing is not returnable.
WHAT ARE YOUR SHOP HOURS?
Hové's® only shop is in New Orleans (the historical French Quarter) and is open Monday through Saturday 10AM-6PM (cst) and Sunday 11AM-6PM (cst). Hové® is closed Mardi Gras Day (of course), Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. If you are in town visiting and can not get by during our normal business hours, call us and we might be able to open earlier, or stay open a few minutes later. We are opened on some Sunday's, you will just have to call to see if we are open or not.
HOW CAN I GET A PRICE LIST? HOW CAN I FIND OUT YOUR PRICES?
You can download our price list from our website, or you can call us and we will be more then happy to mail you a current price list if you are unable to download it . We now have our prices listed on our website, so it is like having a current catalog at your fingertips. Prices that are listed in our price list and website are good until the ending date specified, or the new brochure is published. Hové® reserves the right to change or discontinue any of the products featured in our price list and on our website. Spring and Fall brochures will still be mailed automatically to established customers, and by request.
